Join Wontanara Drum & Dance in the ultimate experience in West African drum & dance!

This Drum and Dance intensive is based in Conakry, Guinea and caters to people of all levels in drum and dance who wish to experience a journey rich in traditional culture, music, dance, human kindness and spirit! Students have the opportunity to take daily dance and drumming classes with professional and talented artists from notorious ballets such as Les Ballets Africains, Ballet Djoliba, Merveilles de Guinee, Ballet Kali and Ballet Tayeli.

Students will also get the rare opportunity to learn from Master djembefola Mamadouba Camara, former lead djembe player for the Ballets Africains and Ballet Djoliba and now director of Ballet Tayeli.

Elements of this drum & dance intensive include:

  • 2 daily dance classes and 1 daily drum classes to suit your skill level.
  • Trips to nearby villages, including “La Voile de la Mariee” Falls in Kindia in the Fouta Djalon region and tropical Rhoume and Cassa Islands
  • Performances by local “Ballets” (Performance Troupes)
  • Guided trips to markets and various outings
  • Participate in local ceremonies and celebrations such as dundunbas and sabars
  • 3 delicious home cooked meals per day and 1 litre of water per day
  • Stay in a comfortable private and secure home.

A trip is planned for December 2014 and January 2015!

This year we are offering two 3 week camps.

The first session is from December 8th to December 30th and the second is from January 5th to January 25th.

You can choose to do from 1 to 6 weeks and start on any Monday that best fits your travel schedule.


Only $1350 for each 3 week session!

Want to stay longer than 3 weeks? Add $350 for each additional week!

*Airfare not included. Deposit (1/2 of total price) is due on Oct. 15th 2014 with the remainder due Nov. 15th 2014.

Week 1 Dec. 8th to Dec. 14th

Week 2 Dec. 15th to Dec. 21st

Week 3 Dec. 22nd to Dec. 30th (2 extra days due to holidays)

Session 2

Week 1 Jan 5th to Jan. 11th

Week 2 Jan 12th to Jan. 18th

Week 3 Jan 19th to Jan. 25th

*Private classes in a variety of disciplines are available by request, for an additional fee.

Here’s an example of your daily schedule in Guinea:

8:30am-10:00am: BREAKFAST


12:00pm-2:00pm: LUNCH BREAK

2:00pm-3:30pm: DRUMMING CLASS


7:00pm-8:00pm: DINNER

*Upon receipt of your deposit and registration form, you will be emailed comprehensive information to help you prepare and pack for your trip. There will be a $300 fee for cancellations after November 15th. Your airline ticket is subject to the cancellation policy of your airline. We recommend that you purchase travel insurance, which should include health insurance during your stay.
